A Great Start to the New School Year

Tips For Caring For Your New Scanner

When you're setting up a home office, one of the pieces of equipment that you'll want to buy is a scanner. Regardless of the line of business you're in, you'll find that it's handy to have this device around. You can scan receipts for your accountant, scan hard copies of documents that you wish to distribute via email, and much more. Finding a company that sells a wide range of scanners will help you find a product at the right budget and with the right features for you. Once you have it installed, you want to take proper care of it, and doing so starts with keeping the glass clean. Here are some tips for doing so.

Wipe The Surface With A Cloth

It's a good idea to store a microfiber cloth near the scanner. When you use the device, it's easy to leave a greasy fingerprint on the glass, which will compromise the scan quality — especially if this happens repeatedly. If your fingers come in contact with the glass, you can simply reach for the cloth and wipe the surface thoroughly. It's worthwhile to keep the cloth handy because when you're busy working, you might not be apt to stop and go find a cloth for this purpose.

Wear Gloves When Possible

If you're doing a significant amount of scanning, you may wish to lessen the risk of your fingers smudging the glass. One way that you can do so is by wearing cotton gloves. Cotton gloves will often come in the package when you buy a halogen light, as halogen bulbs shouldn't be touched with bare fingers. Keep these gloves handy and use them when scanning. You might not wish to use them for quick scanning jobs, but if you're scanning dozens of receipts at tax time, for example, the gloves will allow you to work quickly without the risk of smudging the glass.

Check Objects Before Scanning

It's a good idea to get in the habit of looking over any objects that you can prior to scanning them. For example, if a receipt has sat on a shelf for weeks, it might be dusty — and you don't want to expose dust to the inside of the scanner. By checking the receipt in advance, you can shake it off into the garbage before you place it on the scanner. By following these tips, you'll keep the scanner's glass in pristine condition.
